Excuse the cheesy title, but it is indeed Star Wars season, and we've signed a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team!
This is actually our third foray into the most popular multiplayer shooter in the world, with the first one being way back in 2009, when we reached a very short-lived agreement with Team Frag, back then the second best local team in Counter-Strike: Source. In 2014, as the local and international scene for Call of Duty 4 died, our CoD4 squad switched to CS:GO, and went on to win two local tournaments to become the undisputed best at the time. Unfortunately, the local CS:GO scene has a very tumultous history, and unfortunately the title's popularity quickly faded.
However, Counter-Strike is the game that never dies. With peaks of eight million concurrent players, the eighteen-year old title is more popular than ever, and thankfully, the local scene is not completely dead yet.
As our Dota 2 was making history during the Nova Series #1 last September, we keenly followed the grand final of the CS:GO tournament, which was completely dominated by the eventual champions: Global5.
Global5 is a storied team within the local CS:GO scene, and have been the dominating team on the local scene since 2016. The team was previously also known as Optimum and have won the Malta Cyber Series #2 in April 2016, the AOC Malta Cyber Series : Masters in November 2016, and most recently, the Quickfire Nova Series #1 in September 2017. The team is made up of the following players:
Claude "Powess" Pisani is the team's ingame leader, and at just 18 years of age, already has three victories in local CS:GO competitions, in MCS #2, the AOC Masters, and the Quickfire Nova Series #1. Claude is a very well renowned player in the local scene, and is looking to push his team even further in both local, and online competitions.
Mathias "raz" Johansen comes with competitive experience from his native Norway. Mathias used to play for GamersLeague White, one of the more well known multi-gaming organisations in Norway, and placed twice on the podium at TromsoLAN. Obviously, he comes fresh off a gold medal at the Nova Series #1 last September. Follow him on Twitter and Twitch.
Kyle "Kyle" Gatt is one of the younger players on the team, and is the team's main AWPer. Kyle won three local events with Global5, in the MCS #2, the AOC Masters, and the Nova Series, and placed second in the MCS #1 with his previous team, Tilt.
Keith "Alphh" Vanhear was one of the players on the original Project Eversio CS:GO lineup, which squad had won the Malta eSports Festival in 2014. After that team disbanded, Keith went on to play for other teams, including Slatra, as well as having played for the French team, Impact.EU. Alphh has a large number of local LAN gold medals under his belt, as well as having been part of Team Malta for the CS:GO World Championships, twice.
Semen "Eneko" Ovsyanik's aim is quite legendary. Originally from Russia, Eneko has been part of the Global5 lineup for a while, having won the Nova Series with them just last September, and has also played in a number of other teams previously, including Slatra, with whom he placed first in the Malta eSports Festival of 2015, and second in the AOC Masters tournament.
Please join us in welcoming our new squad, and support them as they debut in their first offline event under the EVERSIO colours at the Aliquantum CS:GO Tournament at SiGMA 2017, which features a prizepool of €5,000.
